ignI hope everyone has had an enjoyable and restful summer. Most of my summer was dedicated to the transition of being the new chapter president. I want to take this opportunity to thank Maribeth for her time and dedication as President of the AIGA Philadelphia Chapter these past two years. Maribeth’s well-organized term as President has left me with some big shoes to fill. Her leadership and insight has positioned our Chapter for great success. I hope to build on the momentum she had started.
There are two goals I intend to focus on during my term as AIGA President.
1. Redevelop a sense of community
Philly has major talent and I want everyone to know it. We are small enough of a community that we can use each other as a resource. I am planning to move the AIGA Philly headquarters to center city. We are currently planning to rent a space where the membership can visit and gather. We'll post more information once plans are finalized. In addition, I would like to plan smaller intimate events with no agenda but to socialize.
2. Member benefits
I, too, pay the same fees you do and I want to feel I am getting the most for my membership and my money! I will make sure that all members will get the best value for every event we develop. The board will consider your costs and your benefit. As a board we want to be accessible to you, so please do not hesitate to say hello to us at any event—we will be making every effort to say hello to you.
Lastly, the chapter cannot run without your help. If you would like to volunteer to help run events, please let us know. Every one of us on the AIGA Philly board is a volunteer— we dedicate our time and energy to keep the chapter running. We can use any help we can get! So please consider getting involved!
I'm really excited to be serving as the Chapter President. I will do the best to keep you inspired and engaged.

In 1981, a group of Philadelphia designers formed AIGA Philadelphia, the first local chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Presently the chapter is comprised of over 700 members. AIGA Philadelphia’s purpose is both integral and complementary to the national organization: to provide the highest standards within the profession and the business community and to stimulate interest and understanding of graphic design and visual communication through lectures, exhibitions, periodicals and other activities.
